Week 5: Assignment 2 read aloud strategy

The read aloud strategy helps students to master the skills of reading properly. When teachers read aloud, students gain a lot of skills. For instance, students learn new vocabulary and ideas that they would not yet be able to read yet on their own. In addition, the teacher models fluency and teaches students how to read with proper accuracy, rate and expression. Furthermore, as she reads aloud, she can model how to think aloud and encourages students to be critical thinkers.   These skills will help develop their vocabulary, fluency and comprehension and will guide them as they read independently. Therefore, reading aloud for a few minutes every day teaches students how to read properly and is a great strategy to implement in the classroom. Click here to view the scholarly article.
